Year 8: Student Wellbeing and Leadership Livestream event

Updated: Aug 9, 2018

We are happy to report that the school participated in a national livestream event run by Generation Next on Friday, 16th March. This required the students to watch a livestream of a series of presentations held at Sydney's Town Hall with expert speakers on the following topics:

- Sexting, Brett Lee

- Relationships and Consent, Lisa McAdams

- Is Social Media Good for You?, A/Prof Michael Nagel

- Stress Management Strategies, Andrew Fuller

Students participated in a live polling and were able to post questions for the rest of the participants in Australia to see and for them to be answered by the speakers. Successfully, we had a number of students post questions that were deemed mature and appropriate enough to be answered live on stage!

Following the event, Year 8 were divided into their House Groups to debrief with their Pastoral Coordinators, the School Counsellors and other staff members on any questions or concerns they had. Some of the topics could have been confronting, so throughout the day we encouraged students to reach out to us by email (they had their laptops with them throughout the event) or to speak to a teacher privately. However, the general consensus we received from the students was overwhelmingly positive, expressing how important the issues are and how eye-opening the presentations were.

Please click on the link below to access the booklet the students used throughout the day provided by Generation Next. I would highly encourage you to read through it and go through the material with your sons. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the School Counsellors.
